Real Madrid teaches PSG a lesson, their remontada is one for the syllabus!

“Hard Work beats talent, if talent doesn’t work hard”, these mere words proved very costly as PSG bows out of the Champions League. A team that completely dominated in the first leg and in the first half of the second leg was taught a lesson by Real Madrid that Champions League is their stage and you can’t take them lightly even if you are leading by 2 goals.

Now, there’s no better forward line in the world than Messi, Neymar and Mbappe. With Hakimi and Nuno Mendes overlapping from the side backs, the team was playing 2-4-4 with the ball at times. This shows how dominant they were. However, if the three players in the attack don’t put pressure on the defence of Real Madrid, then you simply cannot stop the club.

Kylian Mbappe scored the first goal of the match in the 39th minute which helped PSG take a 2 goal lead as they defeated the Madrid-based side by 1-0 in the first leg. Real Madrid couldn’t create any positive move in the first half as Asensio was losing a lot of possession and Kroos didn’t look fit enough to play.

The veteran coach Carlo Ancelotti made some necessary changes in the second half and the result was there for everyone to see. Camavinga, the 19-year-old French was not someone Real Madrid wanted to sign at the beginning of the season but when they failed to get Kylian Mbappe, they quickly signed this teenage sensation and boy; he is playing some quality football.

Camavinga along with Modric and Valverde took charge of the mid-field in the second half and since then, PSG was nowhere to be seen. Modric at 36-years of age is playing like he is in his 20 and without a doubt; he is one of the biggest reasons why Real Madrid managed to complete the Remontada.

Now, coming to Karim Benzema, the Frenchman absolutely changed the scene at the Bernabeu. After Cristiano Ronaldo’s departure, he took control of the things and with his brilliant hat-trick last night; Benzema is now the third highest goal scorer in Real Madrid’s history, behind Ronaldo and Raul.

Donnarumma made a huge error in the 61st minute which Karim Benzema took full advantage of. Later, the number 9 scored again in the 76th minute and completed his hat-trick in the 78th minute. It was nothing but pressure from Real Madrid that PSG couldn’t handle and they gave up. Vinicius deserves a lot of credit as well. Hakimi won against him in the first leg and also kept him under control in the first half. However, in the second half, he unleashed himself and the PSG defence couldn’t stop him.

With this result, PSG fans are more than unhappy. Nasser Al Khalifi built his dream but no matter what he does, PSG keeps on getting eliminated in the knock-out rounds of the Champions League. He was absolutely furious after the match and many journalists in Madrid also reported that the PSG president has given death threats to a few Real Madrid employees.

In the post match conference, Karim Benzema said, “We wanted to see this stadium like the fans were today, we needed them, the win is for them. It was very difficult, we pushed until the end and we deserved to go through”.

He added, “When we press, we can beat any team. It is about pressing as a team, everyone in their position, and with the fans. Every game is a final for us, in the league and in the Champions League. Today, Real Madrid is alive”.

Thus, with Bayern Munich, Liverpool and Manchester City, Real Madrid qualifies for the quarters of the Champions League. Without a shadow of a doubt, the Blancos defeated arguably the strongest team in the world. Imagine what they could have done with Kylian Mbappe in the mix. The team offered 175 million for the player before the season kicked off.
