A shocking and disappointing defeat for Barcelona against Rayo Vallecano

“Barcelona is back” is one such narrative that not just the fans but the admin of their social media platforms also promoted after a 4-0 win against Real Madrid. Well, there of course was a reason to celebrate but did they lose track after that? A defeat to Cadiz and Rayo Vallecano is not something you expect from the Catalan-based club. A lot of missed chances killed the game for Barca as 14 minutes of stoppage time also couldn’t help the team.

Alvaro Garcia netted the goal past Andre Ter Stegan in the 7th minute of the match and since then, the team created a lot of opportunities but no one could convert it! Barca pressed, pressed and pressed but nothing really helped them. All their forwards had a golden chance to equalize but the ball didn’t find the back of the net.

With this shocking defeat, Real Madrid moved an inch closer to the title. Los Blancos need just one point in their last five matches to seal the La Liga trophy for the 35th time. Xavi, manager of FC Barcelona was very angry and disappointed after their loss. In the post-match press conference, the Spaniard said, “I leave angry, disappointed because today was.. A repeat of what happened against Eintracht, as well as Cadiz. We lacked a lot of effectiveness”.

Even though Barcelona is currently in the second place, Xavi is afraid of the future. There’s a thin chance that the team might slip and miss the Champions League spot. “If we want to hear the Champions League music next season, we have to match (Champions League teams) in terms of enthusiasm”, said Xavi in the post-match conference.

The team is currently tied with Sevilla as both the clubs have 63 points from 33 games. Atletico Madrid is fourth in the table with 61 points while Real Betis has 57 points from 33 games. So, more or less, the Catalan-based club has sealed their Champions League spot but their manager isn’t relaxed about the fact.
