Ajaz Patel scripts history by claiming all ten wickets in one innings
Ajaz Patel makes history; takes all ten wickets of a test innings
Such a rare and monumental feat as Ajaz Patel takes all ten wickets of India in the first innings of the second test at Mumbai. After Jim Laker and Anil Kumble, the Kiwi became the third International cricketer to do so in test cricket. His teammates were of course delighted to see him achieve such a rare feat but we also saw Ravichandran Ashwin giving him a standing ovation from the balcony.
Patel, who was born in Mumbai had to move to New Zealand and slowly made a career out of cricket. For him to come to India and to Mumbai, his birth place and achieve this feat will truly be very special. Twitter is indeed going crazy as the likes of Harbajan Singh, Brendon McCullam, Jimmy Neesham has already congratulated Ajaz.
On air, Sunil Gavaskar exactly pointed out why this achievement is more than special. Players in their career rarely take fifer in their opponents ground. Ajaz did exactly so. In the 148 years of test cricket, becoming the third only player to do so is indeed very rare and he has well and truly cemented his position in the history of the game.
