Ace Sri Lankan all-rounder out of Galle test due to COVID-19

It’s a mighty blow for the Sri Lankan Cricket team as their premier  all-rounder Angelo Mathews tested positive for COVID-19 on Friday, June 30. He has been ruled out of the ongoing Test series in Galle after he felt unwell on the second day of the first test against Australia. Oshada Fernando has been named as the replacement for Mathews.

Sri Lanka Cricket Board said in a statement on Friday (July 1) that; "Angelo Mathews tested positive for Covid-19, he was found to be positive during a Rapid Antigen test conducted on the player yesterday. The test was done, as the player was feeling unwell. Accordingly, he has been isolated from the rest of the team members and is following Covid-19 protocols."

Sri Lanka under the captaincy of Dimuth Karunaratne winning the toss opted to bat first and made 212 runs in the 1st innings. In return, Australia scored 321 losing all their wickets, taking a 109 runs first-innings lead.
