USA Cricket announce election victories of Atul Rai and Kuljit Nijjar as Directors

Atul Rai and Kuljit Nijjar to take charge as Club Director and individual Director respectively at USA respectively. Raj who once served at the erstwhile USACA as League Director and Chair of the cricket Committee between November 2018 and May 2020, will make a comeback to USA Cricket’s Board of Director after a brief pause. The founder of Dallas Cricket League, Nijjar, is set to hold office for the first time at a national governing body for cricket.

With 51.30% of votes, Rai ousted the office holder Ajith Bhaskar from the New York region, as well as beating other candidates. The resounding victory over the incumbent Suraj Vishwanath, Anand Patel, Ganesh Sanap and Babu Venkatachalapthy came as a result of 52.40% vote share. USA Cricket did not mention anything about the duration of the tenures of the newly elected directors.

Vishwanath and Bhaskar end their rough tenures at the board which saw a lawsuit filed against them and three others on the board by fellow board directors Venu Pisike and Srini Salver. The lawsuit, which challenged the re-election of Paraag Marathe as the board chairman and an overturn of an alleged unlawful constitutional amendment over eligibility rules for voters was eventually dropped by the plaintiffs Pisike and Salver. The canvassing period for election also saw constant mudslinging from numerous stakeholders of the election on social media as well as in electronic media through regulated leaks from inside the board.

Nijjar and Rai will join outgoing chairman Paraag Marathe, Avinash Gahe, Sushil Nadkarni, Srini Salver, Nadia Gruny, Catherine Carlson and Venu Pisike on USA Cricket’s board of directors.  Gruny was elected uncontested. It is impending that the board may call up the election for male player director, league director, individual director and subsequently the board will elect three independent directors.
