New Zealand tour of Australia

AUS vs NZ, 2nd ODI

Preview

After suffering an agonisingly painful loss in the opening fixture, the visitors will aim to bounce back in the second game. The hosts on the other hand despite the win would not be happy with the batting performance. They will be hoping their batters to come good and perform well collectively in the second ODI. In the last game, Australia almost made a hash of an easy 232 run chase. But thanks to Cameron Green and Alex Carrey’s 158 run stand for the sixth wicket which eventually proved to be the defining moment in the match. Cameron Green remained unbeaten at 89 and stayed right at the end to take his side home. The imperturbable all rounder did not panic when wickets were falling at the other end. He played second fiddle to Alex Carry when he was batting alongside him. Post the wicket keeper’s dismissal, Green became the aggressor and scored freely.

The hosts will look to carry the winning momentum ahead in the trans-tasman series. Their batters didn’t look comfortable in the middle during the opening game. Apart from Green and Carey, no other batter was able to create any significant impact. We’re taking nothing away from the NZ bowlers. We believe they bowled with a lot of discipline and patience but the way Aussie batters gave away their wickets was a little baffling. The senior players need to  step up and show a little responsibility whilst at the crease. The bowling attack looks potent with four pacers (including Green and Stoinis) and two frontline spinners.

The Kiwis on the other hand will be eager to pull one back and level the series. Their bowlers made Aussie batters toil hard for every single run in the first match. Trent Boult was unplayable with the new ball. He struck twice in a space of few overs and put the Aussie batters under tremendous pressure. The speedster first removed Aaron Finch with a beautiful inswinger then bamboozled Steve Smith with the one that sharply nips back in off the pitch. Marnus Labuschagne was Boult’s third victim. He enjoyed good support from Lockie Ferguson and Matt Henry who picked two wickets apiece. The pace attack ripped through Australia's top order and sent half of their side packing at just 44. They were in cruise control at the halfway mark but poor decision making and ragged fielding after that was one of the pivotal reasons behind black caps’ downfall. Ahead of the second encounter, let us have a look at how these two sides will fare out on Thursday.
