Australian T20 League 2022

Match 31- STA vs SIX

Preview

Stars and Sixers will square off in match number 30 of the Aus T20 League 2022-23 at the iconic Melbourne Cricket Ground on Friday, January 6. The Sixers, led by Moises Henriques have had a chaotic run in the ongoing edition of the tournament. They are currently placed third in the league standing with 9 points and a net run rate of -0.281. However after losing their first two matches, the reigning champions have shown massive improvement and   made amends to a considerable extent.

Their previous meeting with the Heat couldn’t produce a result due to rain. But the men in pink would be a little concerned with the bowling prowess as the Heat managed to put on 147 runs in 13 overs. Apart from Steve O Keefe, all the other bowlers were taken for plenty of runs.

Adam Zampa and co on the other hand are tottering at the bottom of the table with four points and a horrendous net run rate of -0.556. They are coming into this match on the back of a 33 run loss against the Gades. Ahead of this fixture, Stars will look to sort out their batting woes. They have failed tremendously as a batting unit and none of their batters has looked comfortable in the middle. Their bowling attack on the contrary has looked potent with Luke Wood, Trent Boult and Adam Zampa in the mix.

Match Details

Match: STA vs SIX, 31st Match, Aus T20 League 2022-23

Date: Friday, January 06, 2023

Time: 1:00 PM

Venue: Melbourne Cricket Ground, Melbourne

Pitch and Weather Report

The MCG pitch has been a decent one for batting, but chasing on this wicket hasn’t been all that easy. A target above the 150 run-mark is likely to pose difficulty for the team batting second. Therefore, winning the toss and batting first should be the right call. Playing conditions will be favourable with temperatures around the 25 degree celsius mark. Humidity will probably touch 30s. There is no chance of rain for the time being.

Hot Fantasy Picks

(i) Wicket Keeper

Josh Philippe- The dashing wicket keeper batter has done well in patches but has failed to maintain consistency. Despite his discrepancy, we back the 25 year old to do well in this match.

(ii) Batsmen

James Vince- He is amongst the top run getters in this competition. With 167 runs in 7 innings, he is Sixers most successful batter this season. The English international has a sound technique and possesses great match awareness, making him a must pick.

Nick Larkin-  He is a safe pick at 6.5 credits. He has put on a string of impressive performances to cement his place in the Stars playing XI. In the last game, he remained unbeaten on 48.

(iii) All Rounders

Beau Webster-  The lanky all rounder adds immense value to the Stars unit with both bat and ball. He hasn’t had the best of seasons so far, but on his day he has the ability to single handedly win the game for his side.

Sean Abott- He is an integral part of this Sixers side. Besides his ability to pick wickets with the ball, the Australian international is also regarded for his power hitting down the order.

(iv) Bowlers

Steve O’ Keefe-  He hardly gives away easy runs. The seasoned campaigner is hard to pick and it was evident with the way he bowled in the last game. On a night when all the other bowlers were taken for plenty, O Keefe tightened the screws on the opposition batters and conceded only a handful for runs.

Luke Wood- The Australian speedster is quick, accurate and has a knack of producing early breakthroughs. With 13 wickets to his name, the 27 year old is amongst the leading wicket takers in this tournament. He will play a crucial role against the Sixers on Friday.

Match Prediction

Looking at the current form and balance within the squads, we back the Sixers to win this game. They are the stronger side on paper and have all the resources to topple the opposition.
