Australian T20 League 2022
Match 40- STR vs HEA

Preview

Strikers (STR) and Heat (HEA) will lock horns in match number 40 of the Australian T20 League 2022-23 at the Adelaide Oval on Saturday, January 14.

The Strikers led by Matthew Short have begun to find form in the tournament. They are slowly but surely starting to move their way up the points table. After losing four matches on the bounce, things seemed to start going downhill for them, but two consecutive wins in their last three matches would have certainly helped their confidence. The men in blue however faced a 8 wicket defeat in their previous clash against the Stars. After being asked to bat first, the STR were bundled out for 108. Wicket keeper batter Harry Nielson who has had a poor season up till this point, top scored with a well compiled 40 to propel his side to three figures. Stars in reply chased down the total inside 14 overs, handing STR their fifth loss of the season.

HEA on the other hand are stuck in the bottom and are now finding it difficult to get out of there. With only two wins in 9 matches, the Brisbane based franchise is languishing at eighth. Good news for them is the addition of Marnus Labuschagne and skipper Usman Khwaja. A whole lot will depend upon these two going forward in the tournament. The duo is coming on the back of a successful period with the national side and will now look to give their all to add some substance to Heat’s faltering campaign.

Pitch and Weather Report

The Adelaide Oval pitch has been a sporting one so far. Batters can play their strokes on the up, implying a high-scoring game. Because the track isn't likely to change significantly, winning the toss and fielding first should be the preferable choice.

The playing conditions will be quite hot, with temperatures hovering around 36 degrees Celsius. There will be no rain, and the humidity will be in the mid-twenties.

Hot Fantasy Picks

(i) Wicket Keeper

Jimmy Pierson- The wicket keeper batter has had a hot and cold season so far. He started the tournament brightly and scored back to back fifties to lead his side from the front. It would be interesting to see how the stand-in skipper performs under Usman Khawaja’s reign.

(ii) Batsmen

Usman Khawaja- The southpaw scored a 24 ball 28 in the last game. He possesses a watertight technique, is quick between the wickets and keeps the scoreboard ticking. The Heat skipper will look to shoulder the batting responsibility for his side.

Chris Lynn- With 394 runs in 10 games, the right hander batter is the leading run scorer in the tournament. He is in the form of his life at the moment and he will be eager to do well against his former franchise.

(iii) All Rounders

Matthew Short- The 27 year old has been at the heart of all the positive things for the Strikers. Known for his pyrotechnics at the top of the order, the 27 year old has also picked quite a few wickets with ball in hand.

Micheal Neser- The Australian international has picked plenty of wickets during the middle overs. He has the ability to surprise opposition batters with his deceptive pace variations and is an extremely handy batter down the order.

(iv) Bowlers

Wes Agar- He has picked 13 wickets in 9 fixtures and is amongst the leading wicket takers in this competition. He hasn’t been in the best of forms lately but we fancy him to do well in this game.

Match Prediction

If Carey and Head play, the Strikers will be tremendously powerful in the batting department. The Heat's bowling has been subpar. The Strikers will be the favourites going into the game.
