Australian T20 League 2022

Match 47: THU vs REN

Preview

Thunders (THU) and Renegades (REN) will lock horns in match number 47 of the Australian T20 League 2022 at the Manuka Oval on Wednesday, January 18. THU find themselves out of the top five race after losing three games on a bounce. With 10 points from 11 games, the Sydney based franchise is currently positioned at sixth in the points table. THU lost three consecutive games earlier in the season, to which they had responded strongly with four wins on the trott. In the previous clash against HUR, Green and co were bundled out for 135 with Oliver Davies being the top scorer with 45 off 38. Daniel Sams put on a show with the ball, claiming four wickets but didn’t enjoy much support from the other end.

Aaron Finch led Renegades have put on a decent performance this season, winning six of their 11 fixtures. They are placed just a rung above THU at third with 12 points and a net run rate of 0.010. REN are coming off a phenomenal win by six runs in the derby. Sam Harper smashed 51 off 34 balls while Jonathan Wells scored a whirlwind 44 to propel their side to 162/7 batting first. Stars in reply could only muster 156 runs on the board. Stars at one stage were looking to run away with the game with the equation down to 54 off 51 balls and eight wickets in hand. But the pace duo of Kane Richardson and Tom Rogers picked two wickets apiece to bring the game back in REN’s favour.

Hot Fantasy Picks

(i) Wicket Keeper

Sam Harper: The wicket keeper batter scored a half century in the last game. He has looked in good touch off late and we back him to carry forward his fine form.

(ii) Batters

Aaron Finch: The Australian International has made 257 runs in 11 outings. He is a good pick for your fantasy squad.

Oliver Davies: With 323 runs in 10 innings, the middle order batter is amongst the leading runs scorers in the tournament this season.

(iii) All Rounders

Daniel Sams: Sams has been an integral part of THU over the years. This time he hasn’t contributed much with the bat but has been spot on with ball in hand. He is heading into this fixture on the back of a four-fer.

Will Sutherland: The bowling all rounder possesses the ability to surprise opposition batters with his express pace and subtle variations. He also holds the potential to clear the fence at will down the batting order.

(iv) Bowlers

Kane Richardson: The pacer didn’t start the tournament well but is gradually finding his groove. He picked two crucial wickets in the key derby clash on Sunday.

Tom Rogers: The talented speedster bowled brilliantly during the back end and triggered a batting collapse against Stars. He will look to start from where he left on Sunday.

Match Prediction

REN look to be the far superior team right now, while the Thunder do not appear to be worth betting on. The batting of Harper and Finch combined with the bowling of Rogers and Richardson, gives  REN an edge over their opponents.
