The Indian Cricket Board bans Boria Majumdar for threatening Wriddhiman Saha

The three member committee of the Indian Cricket Board has found sports journalist Boria Majumdar guilty of “threat and intimidation” towards Wriddhiman Saha. The Apex Committee of the Indian Cricket Board as a result has banned the senior journalist for two years.

As per an email sent to the State Associations, Indian Cricket Board’s interim CEO Hemang Asmin declared the sanctions imposed on Majumdar, which in turn will deny the journalist of any press accreditation, interview with “registered” players and access to any Indian Cricket Board or state cricket member for a total of two years

“The key issues for deliberation for the Indian Cricket Committee in the matter was to ascertain if the messages sent by the journalist were in the nature of threat and intimidation. The Indian Cricket Committee considered the submissions by both Mr. Saha and Mr. Majumdar and concluded that the actions by Mr. Majumdar were indeed in the nature of threat and intimidation," the email read.

"The Apex Council  agreed with the recommendations of the Indian Cricket Committee and imposed the following sanctions: (i) 2 (two) year ban on getting any accreditation as a member of the press in any of the cricket matches (domestic and international) in India; (ii) 2 (two) year ban on getting any interview with any registered players in India; and (iii) 2 (two) year ban on access to any of the Indian Cricket Board and member associations owned cricket."

The committee was set up on February 25 after Saha tweeted a screenshot of the messages he received from the journalist, after the wicket keeper batter was left out of the squad for the upcoming test series against Sri Lanka. Indian Cricket board vice president Rajiv Shukla, Treasurer Arun Singh Dhumal and Apex Council member Prabhtej Singh Bhatia were among the committee members.
