Mulder, Erwee tests positive for Covid-19

Wian Mulder and Sarel Erwee have been tested positive for COVID-19 ahead of the 4th day’s play in Port Elizabeth. They have been replaced by Khaya Zondo and Glenton Stuurman in the playing XI for the ongoing test match against Bangladesh.

A Cricket South Africa release on Monday quoted Shuaib Manjra (chief medical officer) as saying "This is an unfortunate situation, but not unexpected after the decision was made to have this tour under the managed event environment protocol, rather than the strict bio-safe environment protocol as was previously the case. This is in line with the country's policy in revoking the Disaster Management Act with reference to the pandemic, as well the huge mental strain that a bubble environment induces."

The two affected players were reported feeling ill, and were subsequently taken out for tests on Monday "The two players are currently in quarantine at the team hotel and are under the care of the team's medical staff," Manjra was quoted as saying. Bangladesh head coach Rusell Domingo who stays in Gqebera when not with the team, is not at St George’ Park due to strong Coronavirus symptoms. SA’s bowling coach Charl Langeveldt and team's security officer, Zunaid Wadee caught the contagious disease during the first Test in Durban and are also not at the current match.

On the brightside Zondo who has played 6 One Day Internationals gets a chance to make a debut in Test Cricket while Glenton Sturrman earns a second cap. With the match in the fourth innings and Bangladesh at the crease, batter Zondo will not have much to do so. Considering the amount of spin the deck is offering, Stuurman will also not witness much action.
