Deepak Chahar and Rituraj Gaikwad are still not sure for Indian T20 League, Chennai waits for medical reports

As the Indian T20 League draws closer, the Chennai camp is still not sure whether they will get the services of Deepak Chahar and Rituraj Gaikwad or not. Both these players suffered an injury in the series against West Indies and have been out of the Indian team ever since. Chennai invested a lot of money on these two and without any doubt, these two players are very crucial for the success of the franchise.

Chahar, who sustained a hamstring tear, was bought by Chennai for 14 crores. He is the leader of their pace attack and has been a match winner for the franchise. It was expected that the player will miss approximately 6-8 weeks but as things stand, he can miss the entire tournament if he fails to recover.

Rituraj Gaikwad was the leading run-scorer of the tournament last season. Along with Faf Du Plessis, he established the platform for Chennai’s fourth trophy last season. Now, with Du Plessis gone to Bangalore, Chennai needed Gaikwad more than ever. The player has suffered a lot of injuries in recent times and the hand injury is the latest one in the list.

All the other Chennai players are currently at Lalabhai Contractor Stadium at Surat and the Chennai camp is still not sure when these two players will join the camp. The CEO of the Chennai team Kashi Viswanathan said, “We are not aware of their current fitness status and won't be able to tell you when they would join the squad.”

The injured players are currently at the NCA where the board is keeping a track of their fitness. Along with these two players from Chennai, Suryakumar Yadav of Mumbai is also at NCA as the flamboyant batter suffered from a fractured wrist. As soon as the board gives them a green signal, these players will join their respective camp.
