On Thursday, South Africa tied the T20I series at one all after a stunning comeback that brought England to its knees. This ought to serve them well when they play the hosts on Sunday in the series-deciding game in Southampton.

By batting first, the David Miller-led team established a target of 208 for England thanks to Rilee Rossouw's unbeaten 96 off 55. The southpaw, who rejoined the South African side in 2017 after a six-year absence because he had signed a Kolpak contract with Hampshire, was named Player of the Match for his innings.

England never really got going in the chase when it came time to bat.  Jason Roy and Jos Buttler were unsuccessful in giving their team a decent start. Jonny Bairstow was the leading run getter with 30 odd runs. South Africa was able to restrict the Three Lions to only 149 runs, winning by 58 runs and becoming the first visiting side to win a T20I at Cardiff's Sophia Gardens. Andile Phehlukwayo and Tabraiz Shamsi both took three wickets in the process. They would put all of their effort towards winning the three-match T20I series in the decisive game on July 31.
