A revolution awaits as Ben Stokes appointed as England Test Captain

As we are on the horizon of another English summer, a new chapter begins for the England test team. After a dreadful end to Joe Root’s leadership, Ben Stokes is all set to take charge and bring a revolution which will change the future of this great test playing nation.

A couple of years back, no one thought that we would see a time where Joe Root will be removed from captaincy but what everyone knew is that Ben Stokes has the hunger, determination and most importantly, the ability to lead the team. In a time, when players quit playing for their national team for Indian T20 League, players like Ben Stokes does the opposite and gives their everything whenever they don the national shirt.

Whether Stokes will get the desired result or not is a different question and a difficult one too. England's team is playing some pathetic cricket lately and the pundits sitting in comfortable seats at Sky Sports are blaming the Indian T20 League for everything. In reality, they only have themselves to blame. Hardly any of their test players represent any franchise and the ones that do are T20 specialists. If anything, the country needs to improve their standard in the County Championship to get better results in International Cricket.

Stokes will have a huge responsibility on his shoulder. The culture needs to change and the vision needs to be clear. England is one of the faces of test cricket and if the red ball cricket needs to grow, it needs to pass through England. A decade back, a revolution came and changed every aspect of their white ball cricket. Result – The team won the 2019 Cricket World Championship and today, they are one of the toughest sides to beat. Ben Stokes needs to bring that to test cricket and he’s got everything in his hand to do it.

Stokes was grateful on getting the opportunity as the new appointed captain said, “I am honoured to be given the chance to lead the England Test team. This is a real privilege, and I'm excited about getting started this summer. I want to thank Joe (Root) for everything he has done for English Cricket and for always being a great ambassador for the sport all across the world. He has been a massive part of my development as a leader in the dressing room, and he will continue to be a key ally for me in this role”.

The Durham based all-rounder who has 5061 runs and 174 wickets in test cricket will be the 81st test captain of the England team.  Unlike Former captain Joe Root, Stokes likes to attack. Not just hit balls out of the park but attack the minds of the opposition. He is a matured cricketer who played with tail Enders and yet got the result that shows that he has the natural ability to lead the team and there’s a lot one can learn from him. Stokes is a perfect choice and the best choice for England. If given a free hand, he can create history and build England’s legacy for sure.
