Daniel Vettori replaces Brian Lara as Hyderabad's head coach

Former New Zealand skipper Daniel Vettori has been appointed the new head coach of Hyderabad, replacing Brian Lara who held the position last year. It remains undisclosed whether the rest of Hyderabad's support staff, including Muttiah Muralithatharan will continue to serve or be replaced.

After Tom Moody (2013-2019 and 2022), Trevor Bayliss (2020-2021) and Lara (2023), Daniel Vettori will be the fourth head coach named by Hyderbad.

Hyderabad were on the hunt for a potential replacement for Lara under whom the team finished at the bottom of the table in 2023 with only four wins in 14 league ties.

Vettori joins Hyderabad on the back of decent coaching experience in the same tournament, having worked with Bangalore from 2014 to 2018. During this period, Bangalore made it to the playoffs in 2015 and finished runners up in 2016. Vettori is also at the helm of Birmingham in the men’s Hundred competition.

The 44 year old has also previously served as a spin bowling coach for Bangladesh, and is presently the assistant as well as spin bowling coach for Australia.

The Ind T20 League is witnessing a coaching revamp across sides as Bangalore ended their long standing association with Mike Hesson as well as previous year’s head coach Sanjay Bangar to rope in Andy Flower. The former Zimbabwean cricketer himself was with Lucknow until Ind T20 League 2023, before being released and replaced with Justin Langer.
