1st T20: IND vs SL

The much awaited Sri Lanka series is finally on us and things are going to get pretty intense from here. Players like Virat Kohli, Rishabh Pant and KL Rahul are not part of the squad. Meanwhile, Suryakumar Yadav and Deepak Chahar have also been ruled out of the series because of their injury. So, a lot of new faces will get the opportunity to play for the nation and if they play well, their dream of getting a ticket to Australia for the World T20 Series might just come true. Similarly, Sri Lankans will have the opportunity to prove that they are now a much better side and give a good competition to the number one T20I side in the world.

Jasprit Bumrah and Ravindra Jadeja will return back to the squad and in the playing XI. Jadeja’s inclusion in the team is massive as the team can now try various permutation and combinations in the batting line-up. Where will Venkatesh Iyer bat and where will Jadeja bat is something the team needs to sort out well before the mega tournament in October. Also with Rahul not in the scene, Rituraj Gaikwad will finally get the much needed game time. He is likely to open with Ishan Kishan with Rohit dropping himself in the middle order. Yuzvendra Chahal will now go one on with Ravi Bishnoi as only one of them will get the opportunity to play as Jadeja has taken up one spot. Jadeja’s inclusion brings a lot of balance in the Indian team that is required to win heavyweight series’.

Finally coming to Sanju Samson, it’s make it or break it for the Rajasthan skipper. He got ample opportunities to represent the Indian team but failed to justify his talent. Now, with Rishabh Pant out of the series, he has a massive opportunity to impress everyone and get back into the team and play the T20 World Series. Captain Rohit Sharma is very high on Sanju as in the pre-match press conference he said, “That guy has got talent, man. Whenever we see him bat in IPL, he's just produced an innings where everyone goes over the moon watching that innings. He's got the skill set to succeed”.

Sri Lanka on the other hand is coming with a 4-1 defeat in the hands of Australia. Their star player, Wanindu Hasaranga has been ruled out of the tournament and that is a massive blow for the team. However, Sri Lanka will be all up for the challenge as they have good players who gave Indians a lot of competition when the team toured Sri Lanka in the last year. Fans should look out for young players and specially players who are going to play in the Indian T20 League. Their form in the series will decide the number of opportunities they get in the Indian T20 League.
