1st ODI: IND vs WI

There will be quite some tension and pressure for the Indian team as the home season finally kicks off. India’s result in One Day Internationals hasn’t been up to the mark as the men in blue won just five in their last 15 matches. With a new captain taking charge, the team will look to bounce back and most importantly set a core team before the 2023 World Series in India. West Indies, on the other hand, needs to show their strength. They have come to India after losing a ODI series against Ireland. The team needs to find new motivation in order to deal with a much stronger Indian team. At least on paper.

It's not a secret that the Indian team has been hit by Covid and some of the key members of the squad are now out. Opener Shikhar Dhawan and Rituraj Gaikwad along with Shreyas Iyer have been tested positive from the squad. Thus, the team won’t be able to play their desired playing XI for the series. Ishan Kishan has been added to the squad and the wicket-keeper batsman will be opening with the Indian captain. Deepak Hooda might also get a call and replace Venkatesh Iyer in the squad after a brilliant domestic season.

Even though Kuldeep Yadav is part of the squad, he might get axed and team India might play Washington Sundar because of his ability to bat. Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Shami are not part of the squad as a part of workload management. Thus, Mohammed Siraj will be leading India’s bowling line-up when they take on West Indies at Ahmedabad.

Speaking about the West Indies, Kieron Pollard and company need to show their talent with the bat in hand. They have some quality players in the likes of Shai Hope, Brandon King, Nicolas Pooran and others. If they can manage to stay in the crease and challenge Indian bowlers face on, West Indies can be a difficult team to beat. When it comes to bowling, the Caribbeans have called up experienced Kemar Roach for the series and he will be having the likes of Jason Holder, Akeal Hosein and Hayden Walsh by his side. All West Indies need to do is to believe that the team can beat India in their home turf.
