Team India defeated New Zealand in the third and final match of the ODI series on Tuesday to close the series by 3-0. Rohit Sharma-led team India won the match at the Holkar, Indore by 90 runs. With this victory, India has reached the top of the ODI rankings. Earlier, the Kiwis were ranked as number one.

While putting to bat first, India scored 385 runs for 9 wickets with the century innings of captain Rohit and Shubman Gill. In response, even after Conway's century, New Zealand could score only 295 runs. The Black Caps' innings ended in the 42nd over itself. Along with winning this match, India also cleans sweep NZ in the 3-match ODI series.

Captain Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill gave a great start to Team India, both batters contributed 212 runs for the first. Skipper Rohit scored 101 runs in 85 balls with nine fours and six sixes, which is his first ODI century since January 2020. Gill also hit his fourth century by playing an inning of 112 runs in 78 balls with 13 fours and five sixes. The vice-captain Hardik Pandya played an important role in taking the team's score to 380 runs in the last over by playing an inning of 54 runs in 38 balls with three sixes and as many fours.

Rohit and Gill took all the New Zealand bowlers on target and played shots against them with ease during their partnership of 26.1 overs. Gill scored 22 runs in the eighth over of the innings off Lockie Ferguson with four fours and a six. Gill brought up his half-century in the 12th over with a four off Mitchell Santner, while an over later, Rohit also crossed the 50-run mark with a six off the same spinner.

Both the batters helped the team cross 200 runs in the 25th over with the help of 22 fours and 11 sixes. Both completed centuries in the 26th over. Rohit touched the 100-run mark in just 83 balls with a single off pacer Blair Tickner and completed his 30th ODI century. On the last ball of the same over of Tickner, Gill completed his century in just 72 balls with fours. New Zealand captain Tom Latham used six bowlers and his sixth-choice spinner Michael Bracewell gave the team their first breakthrough.

Rohit got bowled in an attempt to play a big shot on the low ball of this spinner. Gill also caught Devon Conway by waving the ball in the air in the next over of Tickner. Ishan Kishan (17) took nine balls to open the account. He didn't look comfortable at all and was eventually run out after a misunderstanding with Virat Kohli (36).

Kohli was looking in good touch during his innings but was caught by Finn Allen at mid-off in an attempt to lift and hit Jacob Duffy's ball. Suryakumar Yadav was disappointed once again and after scoring just 14 runs, he was caught by Duffy at long-on to Conway. Pandya and Shardul Thakur (25) added 54 runs for the seventh wicket to reach the team's score of 385 runs. For New Zealand, Duffy and Blair Tickner took three wickets each for 100 and 76 runs respectively. 

Hardik Pandya bowled Finn Allen in the very first over without opening the account. Devon Conway took over after the fall of the first wicket. He shared 106 with Henry Nicholls (42) and 78 with Darrel Mitchell (24) for the second wicket. After 25 overs, New Zealand's score was 184 for 2 wickets. Shardul Thakur took the wickets of Mitchell and Tom Latham on the first two balls of 25 overs.

Conway brought up his third ODI century off 71 balls but shortly he was dismissed by Umran Malik who sent Conway to the pavilion in the 32nd over. Conway scored 138 runs in 100 balls with the help of 12 fours and 8 sixes. Earlier, Shardul had also made Glenn Phillips (5) run cheaply.

Michael Bracewell, who scored a century in the first match, was trying to replicate the first ODI innings again but Kuldeep Yadav got him stumped. Bracewell scored 26 runs off 22 balls. Lockie Ferguson also became the victim of Kuldeep by scoring only 7 runs. Yuzvendra Chahal first dismissed Jacob Duffy and then Michesh Santner to wrap up New Zealand's innings for 295 runs. Shardul Thakur and Kuldeep Yadav took 3-3 wickets for India. Chahal got two wickets.
