International League T20 2023

Match 6: SW vs MIE

Preview

The Sixth match of the first International T20 League will be played between SW and MIE on 17th January 2023 at 07:30 PM IST at Sharjah Cricket Stadium. In the first ILT20, Sharjah lost both of their matches. They have zero points and a dismal net run rate of -2.100, placing them fifth on the table. MIE with 2 points and a net run rate of +2.450 on the second position 2 points.

MIE destroyed SW by 49 runs in their first game of the year. In their second game, they were defeated by DV by seven wickets. At the Dubai International Cricket Stadium, on a decent pitch, the Warriors could only muster 145-5 after being allowed to bat. The Vipers achieved the target in 16.4 overs.

The batting for the Warriors has yet to explode. Lower-order batsman Chris Woakes rescued them from the embarrassment of a low score in their first game against Emirates with a brilliant counter-attacking inning of 62 off 29 balls. In the second game, only Joe Denly (36 off 33 balls) and Mohammad Nabi (34 off 23 balls) had an effect. They have been severely impacted by the failure of West Indian opener Evin Lewis, who has scored two consecutive ducks.

Rahmanullah Gurbaz, the wicket-keeper hitter for Afghanistan, looked excellent with his 43 off 31 balls in the previous game and anticipated going for a big score in this one.

The side will again have to rely on England's Chris Woakes and spinner Mohammad Nabi to handle the bowling duties. Although Naveen-ul-Haq performs a respectable job, they need a reliable wicket-taking alternative.

MIE has only faced Sharjah in one game thus far. Emirates scored 204-5 on a fantastic Sheikh Zayed Stadium surface after being asked to bat first. They then held the Warriors to 155-9. Both the bowling and batting teams put on a polished performance.

Opener Muhammad Waseem was the top-scorer in the opening game, scoring 71 from 39 balls. While skipper Kieron Pollard (22* off 13 balls) added the finishing touches, Nicholas Pooran (49 off 30 balls) also shone.

Emirates has plenty of bowling options. Trent Boult, a Kiwi fast, is their attack's leader, while Imran Tahir, a seasoned leg-spinner, gives them a dependable wicket-taking option in the middle overs. In the last game against SW, Tahir recorded 3-26 from his four overs. In addition, one of the greatest T20 bowlers of all time, Dwayne Bravo, will be helpful in the last few innings.

Match Details

Match: SW vs MIE, 6th Match, International League T20, 2023

Date: Tuesday, January 17, 2023

Venue: Sharjah Cricket Stadium, Sharjah

Pitch and Weather Report

At the Sharjah Cricket Stadium, batting first results in an average score of 155. The best score here is 228/4, which the Delhi team recorded during the Indian T20 League. In 66 T20 games, scores between 150 and 189 have been attained 23 times. Therefore, the side batting should seek a goal of between 175 and 185 runs to feel secure.

The Sharjah Cricket Stadium's surface is often dry and flat. However, it does benefit spinners. The surface should be firm and suitable for batting, considering this will be the season's first game played on the ground. Seam bowlers initially get some assistance, but scoring will be simple as hitters adapt. The ball will slide as the night wears on, making batting easier in the second half.

During the game, Sharjah will see dry but relatively warm weather. The highest and lowest temperature will be 27℃ and 21℃, and the wind speed will be about 14 km/h in the southwest direction.
