India’s stand-in skipper KL Rahul injures his hand before the Second Test against Bangladesh

India skipper KL Rahul suffered an injury blow on the eve of the team’s second Test match against Bangladesh in Dhaka.

Rahul is the stand-in skipper in the absence of the injured skipper Rohit Sharma who has to stop batting at the nets after being hit by the ball on his right hand.

Team India’s batting coach Vikram Rathour later explained that the injury “doesn’t look serious”. Regardless, Rathour didn’t confirm whether KL would be available for the selection on Thursday.  “He seems to be fine. Hopefully he’ll be okay. The doctors are looking at it, but hopefully he’ll be okay,” Rathour added.

In the case, Rahul is ruled out for injury, vice-captain Cheteshwar Pujara will lead India for the first time. Abhimanyu Easwaran, who was named as Rohit Sharma’s substitute player will be the possible replacement for Rahul if he fails to recover.

The Indian Cricket Team has been wrecked by a string of injuries with senior players like Rohit Sharma, Mohammed Shami and Ravindra Jadeja missing the entire Test Series against Bangladesh. Recently seamer Navdeep Saini was also ruled out for the upcoming second Test on Tuesday.
