KL Rahul set to miss England tour

The Indian Cricket Board has decided to set Indian opener, KL Rahul abroad for treatment, and it is highly likely that he will undergo treatment in Germany. The 30 year old is down with a recurring groin injury and is set to miss the upcoming England tour.

Rahul going abroad for treatment has been confirmed by the Indian Cricket Board secretary Jay Shah. “That is correct, the board is working on his fitness and he will be going to Germany soon" Rahul is expected to fly out to Germany by the end of this month of early July.

The clear implication of the overseas treatment is Rahul will miss the England tour, where the Indian cricket team is scheduled to play one Test (July 1 to 5), three T20Is and as many One dayers. Rahul was named vice captain under skipper Rohit Sharma but now the Indian selectors will now have to name another deputy.

On Thursday morning, the Edbagston test side left for England and understandably Rahul was not included. As of now there are no plans of naming a replacement, unless of course the team management makes a request. In that case, Mayank Agarwal will probably be named within the squad. The selectors, however, will have to announce a vice-captain for the tour as the chances of Rahul competing in any of the seven games are slim.

The Karnataka cricketer, who has represented India in 43 tests, 42 ODIs and 56 T20Is, has been away from international cricket since February this year.
