KS Bharat looks very likely to make his debut, Mayank to get dropped

KS Bharat, who did a brilliant job behind the stumps in absence of Wriddhiman Saha in the first test, might finally get the call to make his debut. Saha was very poor in the first innings with the bat and then he couldn’t keep wickets after having a stiff wicket. In the second innings when team India was in deep trouble, the player from Bengal showed extreme courage and came to bat and saved India in the second innings. Even after suffering from a stiff neck, Saha made 61 runs and remained not-out to put India in a very healthy place.

This complicated a couple of things. When it looked like Saha will get dropped and Bharat will replace him in the second test, the Wriddhi-man played a superb knock under pressure to cement his position in the test for one more test. Now, Saha is not 100% fit, but if he is, Saha might just play one more game. According to Paras Mhambrey, the bowling coach of the Indian Cricket team, “We will take a call closer to the game. Physios are in constant touch with Rahul and Kohli”.

He added, “Closer to the game, we can take a call on what condition he is in. What Saha did in his last game was a fabulous effort. It was painful to bat, but he raised his hands and delivered for the team”.

Now, if Saha is not fit enough to play, Bharat is very likely to debut and even open the batting with Shubman Gill. In that case, Cheteshwar Pujara will come to bat at number three, Virat in the second down position, Rahane in the 3rd down and finally Shreyas Iyer in the forth down position.

Yes, Ajinkya Rahane is very likely to play the second test and Mayank is likely to get dropped. Rahane who is yet to play a home test will get a chance to play his first test at Mumbai. The vice captain of the Indian team however needs to prove his worth. If he fails to make a mark in the next match, he is very likely to get dropped from the South African series and will be replaced by the likes of Rishabh Pant or even Hanuma Vihari! Shreyas has already cemented his position in the side. So it’s up to Rahane now. He still has his fate on his hand.
