Mayank Agarwal is set to replace Covid infected Rohit Sharma in the test squad!

With team India still waiting to get an update on Rohit Sharma after the captain is affected with Covid-19, the management has called up Mayank Agarwal to replace him as of now. If the 35-year-old indeed misses the test, it will be a huge blow to the team as KL Rahul, another dependable opener has already been ruled out following an injury. Indian board is yet to announce the captaincy change in case Rohit is ruled out but as of now, Jasprit Bumrah might get the baton on virtue of being the vice-captain in this tour.

Mayank, who’s currently in India will be travelling to England in due course and will not have to quarantine himself in England. The country doesn’t demand to quarantine an individual at the moment and thus, the opener will directly join the squad before the 5th test at Edgbaston.

In such an important stage where the team is on the verge of winning a test series in England, Rohit and Rahul’s absence will bother the team. Shubman Gill will definitely start the match and either KS Bharat or Agarwal will get a shot. Agarwal with experience might lead the race but Bharat has done relatively well in the practice match against Leicestershire. Opening for the team in the 2nd innings, Bharat scored 43 off 98 deliveries. Now, it’s up to the management to judge whether Bharat is ready to face the likes of James Anderson and Stuart Broad or Agarwal is ready to soak in!
