Match 37: NEUFC vs. ATKMB

Preview

Neither of the team has impressed thus far but NorthEast will come into the match after beating East Bengal in the next match while there are a lot of things that have happened in the green and maroon brigade. Irrespective of that, both the teams will look for all three points to bring their team into a comfortable position. The highlanders are currently ninth in the table with 7 points from 7 points while the finalists of last season, Mohun Bagan are struggling in the middle of the table with 8 points from 6 games.

Expect a fresh team when Mohun Bagan comes out to the field today. Their coach Antonio Lopez Habas has resigned in the middle of the league and the club has acquired Juan Ferrando as their new coach. Now, Ferrando was in charge of Goa and the Mariners had to pay a whopping transfer fee of Rs. 1.2 crores to bring the Spanish tactician in the Mohun Bagan dressing room. Ferrando’s release clause was basically triggered and the manager will now earn more than 4 crores from the club. So basically, a lot has changed since the team last played their game against Bengaluru. Habas’ resignation came out of nowhere and the team needs to start fresh in order to qualify for the semi-finals or win the shield. In order to do that, the club needs to stabilize its defense and midfield. They were always known for their defense but nothing is working this year. Individually, the players have been good but collectively, they are conceding a lot of goals. They definitely miss Sandesh Jhingan in the middle. Even when it comes to midfield, they miss a solid creative midfielder. As the team can field only four foreigners, Carl McHugh is getting benched and of course, they are missing Javi Hernandez, who was their main player when it comes to creating chances. Hugo Boumous also needs to step up his game. It was thought to be Jaguar but he’s offering service like Alto. Things need to change in the club and against NorthEast, they have the chance.

Standby coach Manuel Casalana in the pre match press conference said that he will be following the footsteps of Habas in this match. He said, “I will 100% follow his work. Antonio Lopez Habas is my Guru. So, I’ll follow his footsteps. You can see us as a disciplined team with the focus on our attack”. The new boss Juan Ferrando may also be in the dugout but everything depends on his PCR test. However, after joining the Mariners, the coach said, “I’ll give my 110% from day one so that all fans can enjoy the best brand of football and hopefully we can celebrate together. I’ll consistently work towards helping the team to give their best”.

Khalid Jamil will have a tough job in hand. Since someone new is in charge of the team, you never know how they will line-up or how they will play. The coach himself clarified that he will focus on his team and not on their opposition but that hardly happens. The team will miss Deshorn Brown in the front but VP Suhair and Camara has showed that they can be depended on. After a lot of bad performance, the team is finally showing some light and if they manage to beat Mohun Bagan, it is going to be a massive boost for the club. Defensively the club needs to be really strong as expect Boumous and Krishna to attack and attack and attack. After all, that’s how Casalana wants to play.

In the pre match press conference Khalid Jamil said, “We are not thinking about their team, we are focused on ours. We did good work last year. To maintain the same level, we have to work hard”.

Match Prediction

No one can confidently say that the green and maroon coach will play this brand of football. A new coach and a set up can change everything. One is for sure that the hunger of winning games is still there and that’s why they have changed their coach in the middle of the season as they don’t like losing matches. Expect them to come all gun blazing and that might be difficult for the Highlanders. They need to depend on the counter attack mostly.
