Indian Football League

Match 29: OFC vs. JFC

Preview

A blockbuster match is on the cards as the winner between Odisha and Jamshedpur will move up and be in the 2nd position. Odisha if they manage to win by 5 goals, they can very well be at the top of the league. Speaking about Odisha, the club finished last in the last season and no one literally gave them a chance to do any good this season. Jamshedpur, on the other hand, hasn't qualified for the semi-finals ever in their short lifetime. Thus, with eyes on the semi-finals spot, both the teams will be looking to solidify their place in the league table and eventually go for glory.

Odisha has been very impressive this season. Javi Hernandez has completely transformed the club and the kind of football the team is playing is very attractive and even though they aren’t playing well, they managed to get all the three points. Against Odisha in the last match, the Juggernauts were pretty average but they made a solid comeback in the second half. They scored one and defended well and thus, they bagged home all three points. Jonathan de Jesus netted the winner and he is once again going to be an important player for the club.

Coach Owen Coyle in the pre match press conference admitted that he is very happy with the performance of his players but also wants to improve and rectify the mistakes his players are making. “The spirit, the heart, and lots of positives. But equally we have to make sure we address, you know, the individual mistakes we made. Look to cut them out. And if we do that, it will obviously give us the platform to go and try and win games”.

Jamshedpur has also done reasonably well but went down against Mumbai in the last match. They conceded three in the first half but scored two in the second half as the match ended 4-2. Mumbai is by far a much better side and it’s not surprising to concede four against the defending champions. Odisha isn’t Mumbai and thus, they should be optimistic of doing well and go for all three points. The only thing that will bother them is that Peter Hartley isn’t 100% fit. He can play for some time but the defender who has been brilliant for two seasons now may also get dropped. Nerijus Valskis will have the responsibility of fishing the match along with Komal Thatal.

In the pre match press conference Coach Kiko Ramirez said, “The team has to be focused on the games ahead and must show 100% commitment to the team and on the pitch. We know that we are going to have tough games ahead so it’s important that the players are focused and paying attention to everything on the pitch until the last minute”.
