Pakistan Cricket Council sacks Ramiz Raja from the post of Chairman

Pakistan Cricket Council Chairman Ramiz Raja was sacked from the head post on Wednesday, December 21. The 74-year-old Najam Sethi will now take over his position. Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sherif, who is also the patron of the board, has approved the name of Najam Sethi for the Pakistan Cricket Council. The former Pakistani batter Ramiz Raja was sacked from the role after the Host side Pakistan suffered a humiliating defeat against England 0-3 in recent test series in its backyard under the captaincy of Babar Azam.

Following this embarrassing performance of Men in Green at Home raised a lot of questions about Raja and he was forced to give up his role. Raja, who became the board chief in September 2021, was removed after Pakistan's 0-3 defeat to England, although many reasons are being given behind this action. England had given a crushing defeat to the Pakistani team that also reached the final of World Cup 2022.

The 60-year-old Ramiz Raja was the 36th chairman of the board, who was made the chairman on 27 August 2021 by then-Prime Minister Imran Khan. During his tenure, Ramiz was mostly producing false statements against the Indian Cricket Council. Even when he took over the post and became the chief, many former cricketers were seen opposing this decision. 

The 74-year-old Former Pakistan fast bowler Sarfraz Nawaz had said that Ramiz Raja should not be made the head of the Pakistan Cricket Council as he made objectionable remarks against Pakistan while speaking in favour of India. For this, he also wrote a letter to former PM Imran.

Ramiz Raja was only the fourth international cricketer to lead the Pakistan Cricket Council. Before him, Abdul Hafeez Kardar (1972–1977), Javed Burki (1994–1977) and Ijaz Butt (2008–2011) held this position. Ramiz Raja scored 8,674 runs in 255 international matches as a cricketer for the Pakistan side. The 60-year-old former cricketer is also famously known for his cricket commentary.
