South Africa Premier League 2025

Qualifier 1: PR vs MICT

Preview

Paarl Royals will square off against MI Cape Town for the 1st Qualifier of the SA Premier League 2025. The game is scheduled to be played at St George’s Park in Gqeberha on Monday, February 3.

Cape Town are the table-topper, with seven wins, two losses, and one match with no results in ten games. Paarl is in second place, with as many wins but three losses in as many matches. The winner of this match will cruise to the finals, while the loser will face the winner of the Eliminator in Qualifier 2.

Bjorn Fortuin-led Paarl side had a perfect start this season but was defeated in their last two games and will also miss the services of Joe Root in this crucial encounter. This season has been no less than a stunner for Rashid Khan and his boys. They have managed to win their previous five games. They are definitely one of the favourites to win this year’s title.

The two teams have clashed twice this season, and both won once. So this promises to be another thrilling encounter. It will be a firecracker of a show, as the winner of this game will get a direct entry to the Final.

Match Details

Match: PR vs MICT, Qualifier 1, South Africa Premier League 2025

Date: Tuesday, February 04, 2025

Time: 09:00 PM

Venue: St George's Park, Gqeberha

Pitch & Weather Report

St George’s Park generally has a slower pitch than the other grounds in South Africa. It would be helpful for the spinners, and the top-order batters have to settle down before they try out their big shots. The skipper winning the toss shall choose to bat first and post a defendable target so that the bowlers can take charge, as the ball will turn more in the second inning of the game.

Port Elizabeth’s weather predicted for the matchday will have a maximum temperature of 27 degrees Celsius and a minimum of 22 degrees Celsius. Despite being a cloudy day, there is no chance of rain affecting the game. The humidity is expected to be 91%, and the wind speed will be 16 kmph.

PR and MICT have similar squad strengths as seen on pen and paper, but with five wins on the trot, Cape Town will enter the match with lots of positives. Hence, we expect them to win this match and get to the SA Premier League 2025 final.
