Shan Masood picked for the World Series T20 2022

Left-handed batter, Shan Masood has been called up by Pakistan for the upcoming T20 World Series. Fakhar Zaman, who will only play among the reserves due to a knee ailment, is replaced by Masood. Star paceman Shaheen Shah Afridi, who missed the Asia T20 due to a knee injury but is undergoing rehabilitation and expected to resume training early next month, is included in the 15-member squad.

Mohammad Wasim, who missed the Asia Cup due to a side strain, will also join the team after making a full recovery. Hasan Ali and Shahnawaz Dahani, who played the tournament have been sidelined for the World Series

The most contentious aspect of the selection was Masood's inclusion, who is uncapped in this format at the international level. The left-hander had a great Pak T20 League 2022 season with Multan Sultans, scoring 478 runs in 12 innings at a strike rate of 138.15. Masood recently scored 204 runs in eight innings at an impressive strike rate of 129.93 in the National T20 Cup. More significantly,  these runs came in the middle, which is currently a concerning area for the men in green.

 T20 World Series Squad

Babar Azam (c), Shadab Khan (vc), Asif Ali, Haider Ali, Haris Rauf, Iftikhar Ahmed, Khushdil Shah, Mohammad Hasnain, Mohammad Nawaz, Mohammad Rizwan, Mohammad Wasim, Naseem Shah, Shaheen Shah Afridi, Shan Masood, Usman Qadir

Travelling Reserves: Fakhar Zaman, Mohammad Haris and Shahnawaz Dahani.

The rest of the squad is similar to the one that featured at the Asia T20. Before departing for Australia for the main event, Pakistan will play a tri-series in New Zealand against the hosts and Bangladesh after playing a seven-match T20I series against England at home. On October 24 in Melbourne, the 2009 champions, who are in Group B, will take on India to begin their pursuit of a second championship.

"We have a team that can perform strongly in the Men's T20 World Series 2022. That's why we have shown faith and confidence in almost the same set of players who have been part of the T20I squad post the 2021 World Series in the UAE," chief selector Muhammad Wasim said. "These players have performed well since November 2021 and that's why we have won nine out of our last 13 T20Is. We have invested in these cricketers and it is fair to them that they get the opportunity to show their mettle in the World Cup, an event for which they have been preparing and training hard.

"We needed to ensure continuity and support to these players, and that's precisely what we have done. We are receiving encouraging reports about Shaheen Shah Afridi, who is likely to resume bowling early next month.”

Abrar Ahmed and Aamir Jamal selected for England T20Is

Pakistan have also picked all rounder Aamir Jamal and mystery spinner Abrar Ahmed for the forthcoming home series against England. They will come in place for the injured duo of Zaman and Afridi with the rest of the World Series bound players (including reserves) selected to feature. The opening game of the seven match series will be played on September 20 at Karachi.
