South Africa announce their T20 squad to play against India
Parnell and Nortje make their return to South Africa T20 side to face India
South Africa announced their squad for the T20 series against India where they have called up the veteran pacer Wayne Parnell and also included pace express Anrich Nortje into the mix. The selectors have also called up right-hand rookie batter Tristan Stubbs for the bi-lateral series. Stubbs is currently part of the Mumbai set up and his experience in the Indian T20 League will come handy when the series begins.
South Africa will be playing the series with their first team members when India decided to rest some of the senior players. The exclusion of Dewald Brevis raised some eyebrows but his recent form didn’t help his resume. Currently, the team is filled with stars as Tabraiz Shamsi, the number one T20 bowler in the world will be coming to the subcontinent along with players like Kagiso Rabada, David Miller, Dwaine Pretorius and other players who impressed everyone in the ongoing Indian T20 League.
Victor Mpitsang, the chief selector of the South African team in a statement said, “This is the Proteas like we have not seen them in a long time. The injection of the Indian T20 League players means that we will have a team that’s ready to fire on all cylinders immediately and has vast experience of the conditions that we will be playing in”.
He added. “Tristan Stubbs is an exciting prospect and we’re keen to see what he’s made of and we are looking forward to the return of the experience of Reeza (Hendricks), Klaasie (Heinrich Klaasen) and Wayne Parnell to join the likes of Temba (Bavuma), Tabraiz (Shamsi) and Keshav (Maharaj)”.
“The country can also join us in a collective sigh of relief at the return of Anrich Nortje, who has been working hard to recover from a frustrating injury. The National Selection Panel and I are really excited to watch our full strength Proteas take on the world’s number one T20 team. We wish Temba Bavuma and Mark Boucher all the best ahead of what we know will be sportainment at its best”, he concluded.
