5th Match: MICT vs DSG

Match Preview

MICT started their SA20 League journey with a bang as they got past PR by an 8-wicket margin. Now in the second match of the season, they are going to cross swords with DSG on 14th January at the Newlands stadium in Cape Town. DSG on the other side lost their inaugural game against JSK and will need to improve their bowling side to win this match. 

The Cape Two franchise made a satisfactory start to their present league campaign with an easy win against the Paarl franchise in the very first match of the newly launched South African tournament. 

English pacer Jofra Archer impressed with the ball, after a long break due to his injury. He struck three times in that match giving away 27 runs in the process. Dewald Brevis was phenomenal with the bat, as slammed 70 runs from 41 deliveries and was unbeaten while chasing the target of 143 runs with 27 balls to spare. 

On the other side, Durban lost their inaugural match against Joburg. De Kock’s 78 runs knock went in vain as they failed to chase down the target. The first innings of the game were well under control until Donovan Ferreira cracked 82* runs off 40 balls to post a target of 190 runs for the Durban side to chase. 

Durban in the second innings looked very shaky as they fell away one after the other against the Joburg bowlers. Only openers Kyle Mayers and skipper De Kock managed to tackle the bowlers. Alzarri Joseph was the architect of victory as he took two scalps to restrict the flow of runs. 

The Durban’s spinners were in their full swing against the Joburg side and it will fascinating to see if they deploy the same strategy against ‘Baby AB’, Dewald Brevis, who is batting in his full swing.

MICT is still in wait for one of their star players, Liam Livingstone who is yet to join their side. Also they have Kagiso Rabada in their bowling side which is a petrifying aspect.

Match Prediction

MICT’s batting and bowling side is probably shining and is the best out of the other teams present in the tournament. The services of Archer and Curran will be hard to handle on this surface unless De Kock or Klaasen get on their mood. DSG doesn’t have enough quality bowlers to challenge the quality batting line-ups. We predict MICT to dominate the game and emerge as the favourites to win this match.
