Match 4: GG vs KF

Preview 

GG will cross swords with KF in the fourth match of the Sri Lanka T20 League at the Mahinda Rajapaksa International Cricket Stadium in Hambantota on Wednesday, December 7. The Galle Franchise finished in the second position in the group stage but lost the final match against the Jaffna side by 23 runs.  

GG started their 2022 season with a 24-run defeat against JK in the inaugural encounter. The bowling side did their job to bowl out the opponents at a moderate score of 137. But later the batters struggled to score runs and were all out t a total of 113 runs hence resulting in a defeat. Skipper Kushal Mendis scored 51 runs, the highest from the GG side, but there seemed to be a struggle for the middle-order batters to form an impactful partnership and chase the low-scoring target. 

On the other hand, KF had a horrible time last season as they were in the last place in the points table with just two wins from eight games played. They will be looking for a comeback in this season with their new squad under the captaincy of Wanindu Hasaranga and new recruits like Carlos Brathwaite, Fabian Allen, Andre Fletcher and Pathum Nissanka.

Pitch and Weather Report

The pitch in Hambantota is not good for batters. KF are the only side to have scored over 150 runs at this venue so far. Spinners will be the game changers in this pitch as the pitch tends to slow down as the game progresses. The skipper winning the toss will probably choose to bowl first on the slow pitch.

Match Prediction

GG will look forward to pulling off a win in their second match but KF under the captaincy of Hasaranga who indeed is in good form will lead a new squad of talented players.  In this case, we expect to see a new Kandy side this season who are more than capable of winning games in difficult situations.
