Tamim Iqbal reaches 5000 Test Runs Milestone

Opener Tamim Iqbal smashes the record of scoring the fastest 5000 runs in Test cricket against West Indies on the first day of the first Test at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium on Thursday.

He is the only second batsman after former captain Mushfiqur Rahim to achieve this landmark in Tests. Tamim played 129 innings in 68 Tests to touch this amazing feat.

Tamim who needed only 19 runs to cross the mark failed against Sri Lanka at home due to an injury. He got retired hurt in the game while he was on 133, following muscle cramps on his back and wrist. Mushfiqur played the home series and registered the record before Tamim last month. Rahman is regarded as Bangladesh’s most experienced Test batsman and has played 82 matches in 149 innings having started his test career in 2005.

The other leading run-scorers for Bangladesh in Test Cricket are Shakib al Hasan (4113), Mominul Haque (3525), and Habibul Bashar (3026).
