Tested positive for Covid, Ashwin missed the flight for England

The pro spinner in the Indian test squad, Ravichandran Ashwin couldn’t travel to England with the rest of the squad after being tested positive for Covid-19. The off-spinner is currently in quarantine at Mumbai and is scheduled to join the squad after meeting all the protocols. Ashwin is a very key player in the Indian test side as he has proved himself to be a dependable all-rounder in the recent past and of course a lethal spinner. Ravindra Jadeja, the other spinner in the squad was ruled out of the Indian T20 League following an injury and most importantly, his form is not something he can be proud of at the moment.

Speaking to PTI, a senior member of the Indian board gave an update on the situation by saying, “Ashwin hasn't travelled with the squad to UK as he has tested positive for Covid 19 before departure. But we are hopeful that he will recover well in time before the Test match starts on July 1”. He added, “However he might miss the practice game against Leicestershir”.

The rest of the squad has already started their training in England. Rahul Dravid, Rishabh Pant and Shreyas Iyer have also reached London after the 5th T20I against South Africa was washed out because of rain. The trio is scheduled to join the training as early as Tuesday.

India’s squad for the rescheduled fifth Test vs England: Rohit Sharma (c), Shubman Gill, Cheteshwar Pujara, Virat Kohli, Shreyas Iyer, Hanuma Vihari, Rishabh Pant (wk), Ravindra Jadeja, Ravichandran Ashwin, Shardul Thakur, Mohammed Shami, Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj, Umesh Yadav, Prasidh Krishna, Srikar Bharat (wk).
