Thailand registers history; advances to Women’s Asia T20 semis for the first time

Thailand Women have created history by entering the semis of the Women’s Asia T20 for the first time, thanks to the weather in Sylhet that denied the same opportunity to hosts and reigning champions Bangladesh.

Bangladesh were supposed to compete against UAE on Tuesday and they had their fate in their own hands in the quest to make the top four.  They were two points behind Thailand but already had a much better NRR. A win would’ve helped them seize Thailand to that sport but constant showers meant the game was washed out without a ball being bowled. That meant Bangladesh earned just a single point and finished fifth just a rung below Thailand.

Thailand started the tournament with an embarrassing defeat against Bangladesh and were trounced by India just yesterday (October 10) but have also managed to put on impressive performances to register three wins- including a miraculous one against Pakistan. They also defeated UAE and Malaysia.
