The dilemma in the Indian squad before the world T20 series

Well, like any other World series in recent times, the Indian team is once again ‘confused’ regarding the squad for the upcoming World t20 series. In the 2019 50 overs World series, the exclusion of Ambati Rayudu created a lot of drama and in a way it backfired as India suffered because of an unstable number four.

With Suryakumar and Rishabh in the middle order, things are more or less sorted this time around. However, the problem this time lies in the lower middle order. Hardik Pandya is not fit enough to bowl and his batting in the Indian T20 League hasn’t been good enough to get a spot in the Indian team.

Rohit, his captain in the Indian T20 League couldn’t really confirm when the all-rounder can start bowling again. With a pacer short, Indian team can’t afford to go with an injured player with the hope that he can deliver with the bat and eventually bowl at some point.

According to several reports, Venkatesh Iyer has been asked to join the Indian camp to act as a substitute of Pandya. In case Pandya misses out, Iyer might get the opportunity. However, several other journalists claim that Shardul might get the call as he has been fantastic for India in the recent past.

Another name that the selectors might think of is Yuzvendra Chahal. Now, Chahar has been selected but he is in very poor form and even Mumbai dropped him from their squad during the Indian t20 league. On the other hand, Chahal has been fantastic and was a very crucial bowler as the captain can use him at any given point to pick up a wicket. So, it shouldn’t surprise anyone if Chahal replaces Chahar in the ultimate team.

Pacer Avesh Khan has also been asked to stay back in the UAE following a brilliant Indian T20 League for the Delhi based franchise. Harshal Patel might also get a knock on the door. However, they are not being considered to feature in the squad. Avesh Khan has been picked as a net bowler while Harshal Patel might as well get the same role.

The board can announce the final squad as early as today. Indian Cricket Fans on social media are constantly having a conversation regarding a possible switch between Pandya and Thakur or Iyer. While some believe that the batsman Pandya can any day win a match for India while the others point it out that there’s a pacer short in the team which can cost the Indian team in the long run. In which team do you stand?
