Few new names as Indian squad is announced for NZ series

It was clear as daylight that Virat Kohli won’t be part of the first test match against New Zealand and now the board officially announced that Rohit Sharma won’t be playing the series as well. Ajinkya Rahane will lead the troop and King Kohli will join the squad in the second test match at Mumbai. This is what more or less everyone knew but there’s something else that made the fans a little surprised.

Shreyas Iyer has now been included in the test squad. Even though this is a very welcoming move, the exclusion of Hanuma Vihari and Suryakumar Yadav makes no sense. Yadav was picked for the England tour and was seen as a middle order batsman for team India but was dropped all of a sudden. Prithvi Shaw was another such player who faced a similar situation but it’s understandable in his case as Shubman Gill will make his comeback after the lad was ruled out from the England series because of an injury.

Thus, questions are being asked in the social media about some of the decisions that the selection committee made. There was no one to answer as because of the pandemic, the committee doesn’t sit for a press conference and everything gets announced in the social media. Whatever it is, if India fails to win the test series in these home conditions, a lot of questions will be asked regarding some of the decisions that the selection committee made.

Squad – Ajinkya Rahane (c), Cheteshwar Pujara (vc), KL Rahul, Shubman Gill, Mayank Agarwal, Wriddhiman Saha (wk), KS Bharat (wk), Shreyas Iyer, Ravindra Jadeja, Ravichandran Ashwin, Axar Patel, Jayant Yadav, Ishant Sharma, Umesh Yadav, Md. Siraj, Prasidh Krishna.

Virat Kohli will join the team in the second test match.

Probable XI – KL Rahul, Shubman Gill, Cheteshwar Pujara, Shreyas Iyer, Ajinkya Rahane, Wriddhiman Saha, Ravindra Jadeja, Ravichandran Ashwin, Ishant Sharma, Umesh Yadav, Md. Siraj.
