Women's Tri-Nation T20

WI-W vs IND-W, 6th T20

Preview:

WI-W and IND-W will face off in the 6th and final round league match for this Women's Tri-Nation T20 series at Buffalo Park in East London on Monday, January 30 at 06:30 PM IST. Women in blue are looking forward to ending the group stage campaign with a win against WI-W Women.

Windies Women's have not won any game played in this tri-series. With 3 defeats from 3 matches, the Windies are at the bottom of the table with 0 points. Team India, on another end, has won 2 out of the 3 matches played to be in the 1st place of the points table with 5 points followed by the Hosts South Africa.

It's just a formal match for both sides as WI-Women are already out of the finals, and IND-W is comfortable in a position to meet South Africa Women in a final match of the tri-series on 2nd February. The Caribbean side will try to end the campaign of the series on a winning note against IND-W tonight.

The Windies recently lost all the last 5 T20Is played. In the last match against SA-W, the team failed to put a decent score on the board. The side scored 97 runs in only 20 overs against the Hosts' bowling attack. Windies skipper Hayley Matthews scored the highest in the innings with 34 runs in 26 balls.

While defending the target of 99 runs, WI-W lost the game by 10 wickets in the 4th match of the Tri-series. No bowler in the team delivered a fine performance with the bowl. As a result, The Hosts chased down the target without losing a single wicket. The team’s batting unit has not yet fired this series so far. In the last game of the series, the side needs to utilize the team’s strength against team India, who are at the top of the points table.

Though India Women’s last match against SA-W went as a resultless game, they are in a safe position to play finals against South Africa Women once again on Thursday. But before that, to end the group stage, Women in Blue are playing against WI-W in the 6th match of the series which would be a warm-up game for them ahead of the final.

In the last game against WI-W in this series, IND-W scored 167 runs in 20 overs. Thanked to the tremendous hitting of Smriti Mandhana, with her not out 71 runs from 51 balls, was a top scorer in India’s innings. The skipper of the side Harmanpreet Kaur also scored 56 runs from 35 balls to the total.

Indian bowlers bowled brilliant spells while defending the target against WI-W in their previous fixture. With the help of Deepti Sharma’s 2 wickets for 29 runs in 4 overs and Radha Yadav’s 1 wicket for just 10 runs in the spell of 4 overs, the Visitors India registered a comfortable victory by 56 runs over the Windies side.

By looking at the overall squad of IND-W, it's clear that they have good depth in the bowling and batting department. They have already beaten West Indies Women's this tri-series. IND-W will try to end the series’ campaign unbeaten when they face West Indies Women in the last game. But we might see some changes in India's playing XI, the side will rest some players for this fixture before heading to the finals.

Match Details

Match: WI-W vs IND-W, 6th T20, Women's Tri-Nation T20, 2023

Date: Monday, January 30, 2023

Time: 06:30 PM (Jan 30)

Venue: Buffalo Park, East London, South Africa

Pitch Report:

The ground has conducted 5 T20I games so far here. Here the general trend is the winning captain chooses to bat first and tries to set a target against opponents. In the last 5 matches played at this venue, the team batting first won 3 times.

The average 1st innings score at this venue in Women’s T20Is is 154 runs on this pitch. This figure isn’t high in the Men’s T20 format either. A 155+ score batting first would be a decent total at this venue.

Given the bowling attack of both teams, it looks quite challenging to put on a competitive total at this venue. The weather forecast for this game is going to be light clouds with a moderate breeze. The venue will host the Sixth match of the 2023 Tri-series between WI-W and IND-W.

The maximum temperature will remain at 24°C, with a low of 20°C with 63% humidity, and a strong wind speed of 23 Km/hr for the Sixth T20 on Monday between WI-W vs IND-W. Some rain is expected in East London on the morning of the match, but the match is unlikely to be disrupted with a 2% chance of precipitation.

Match Prediction:

Both teams have a  good variety in the bowling attack and their key players are consistent. It is also the pitch conditions that have helped them dominate the opposition. On paper, India looks pretty solid in the batting department. However, India’s bowlers will pose a tough challenge to the Windies' side.

And if the Windies dismiss the two key middle-order batters of team India, Windies will be right on top. Women in Blue got many promising T20 players throughout the lineup and the last match showed that the lower order can also make significant contributions when needed. IND-W will start as favourites in this match on Monday before heading into the finals against the SA-W.
