Preview 

Serbia and Switzerland will lock horns at Stadium 974 in their final Group G game on Friday, with the Eagles knowing that they must win to stand any chance of advancing to the Round of 16. A point is likely to be sufficient for the second place Nati, as long as Cameroon fails to beat Brazil in the other remaining game in the group. 

Serbia still have a fighting chance of going through the next round, but they will be dismayed not to be in a better position coming into the final game. In their opening match, the Eagles faced an expected defeat against a star studded Brazil side. They managed to hold the overwhelming favourites for quite some time, but a second half brace from Richarlison put the game beyond their reach. Despite the result, Dragon Stojkovic’s side could still have been in a far better position, had they just defeated Cameroon in their previous game and at one point they looked almost certain to emerge victorious. After Jean- Charles Castelletto opened the scoring for the opposition, goals from Strahinja Pavlovic and Sergej provided Serbia a slender 2-1 lead going into the break. Aleksander Mitrovic added a third to give his side some cushion shortly after the restart, but two goals in quick succession from the Indomitable Lions mean that nothing but a win is good enough for Serbia, and even that would not assure them a spot in the Knockouts, as it will come down to goal difference if Cameroon beat Brazil. 

Switzerland are in a good position to go through the round of 16, thanks to their 1-0 win over Cameroon in their first game in Group G. Breel Embolo scored the only goal of the game early in the second half, securing a critical three points for his national side against the country of his birth. This is the only goal scored by Nati in the tournament so far. Brazil got the better of them in their last game. Casemiro’s wonder strike made the difference in that game. Switzerland dominated the majority of the game but failed to hold their nerves right till the end. However Ecuador were in a similar position as Switzerland on Tuesday, as they only needed to avoid a defeat against Senegal to go through, which should act as a reminder to Yakin’s players that there is still work to be done

SER: Aleksandar Mitrovic, who opened the scoring for Serbia against Cameroon, will play a critical role in this match. He was ruled out of the last match due to injury but now the talisman is back to full fitness, ready to lead the Serbian attack. 

SUI: Breel Embolo will be the player to keep an eye on. He is their main man upfront who is capable of effortlessly running past opposition’s defence.

There is virtually little between the two European sides, but Switzerland should be able to replicate their performance against Cameroon to advance to the knockout rounds.

Serbia will throw everything at their opponents' defence, but it was tenacious in their opening game and for the majority of the Brazil game, so it should be able to cope up with the pressure.
