Round of 16, Match 6- BRA vs KOR

Preview 

The round of 16 action continues with the sixth match of the phase set to be played between Brazil and South Korea. The two teams will square off at the Lusail Stadium on Tuesday, December 6. In a group that included Ghana and Uruguay, South Korea emerged as runners-up, outplaying one of the strongest teams in the tournament, Portugal. Brazil on the other hand won three matches on the bounce before suffering a shocking 0-1 loss to Cameroon. 

Cameroon scripted history by becoming the first African side to defeat Brazil when they stunned the Seleçãos in their last league clash. Even though it didn’t make any significant impact on the group standings as Brazil still finished first, it must have affected their confidence coming into the knockout stages. After Japan, South Korea became the second Asian team to reach the round of 16, and they did it in some style, defeating Cristiano Ronaldo’s Portugal. 

Brazil lived up to the expectations when they began their World Cup 2022 campaign. Their display of top class football incorporated launching fearless attacks and scoring exceptional goals. However, their loss to Cameroon pushed them on the backfoot in a world cup full of upsets. A minor blip can end their journey at the showpiece event now. They cannot afford to be complacent against an erratic Korean side. Brazil’s star player Neymar is expected to return for this match. The PSG forward who sustained injury during the game against Serbia has been deemed fit for this match. 

South Korea must be full of confidence after beating their European rivals, Portugal. Korea plays quick, exciting and attacking football while also putting up potent defence. They often commit fatal errors in the middle of the pitch but this is just the way they love to play. 

Brazil holds the upper hand in the head to head battle. The South Americans have won six of their seven matches against South Korea.

Brazil's loss to Cameroon may have come as a surprise, but Tite will now have a multitude of first-team talents at his disposal, including Neymar, so we still expect the Selecao's numerous attacking options to propel the five-time winners into the final eight and crush South Korea's dream.
