Jimmy Anderson and Stuart Broad returns as England announce their squad for Kiwi series

Finally, after a lot of speculation and anticipation, the England team finally recalled Jimmy Anderson and Stuart Broad for their tour against New Zealand. The two most successful bowlers in the history of England were dropped from the West Indies tour and it was expected that the duo would call their time and retire from the game. However, they had other intentions as Jimmy Anderson at the age of 39 and Stuart Broad at the age of 35 have enough hunger left in them to play for the national side and bring all the glory for their country.

With Ben Stokes as the captain of the side, the selectors announced a 13 member team that will travel to New Zealand. The 3-match test series will begin on 2nd of June and following that, the team will challenge India for the 5th test that was scheduled to play later but Covid broke down in the Indian camp last year.

Despite a poor run of form, Joe Root has retained his place in the squad while Yorkshire batter Harry Brooks got his maiden call-up along with pacer Matthew Potts. With Jofra Archer, Ollie Robinson, Olly Stone, Mark Wood and others out of the series because of various injuries, Potts will have a massive chance to showcase his talent and send a statement that he is ready for International cricket. Brooks on the other hand was in tremendous form in the county. At an average of 151.60, the opener has scored 758 runs in the first division of the competition. He can be an asset for the team specially when all the other openers have failed to impress so far.

England squad for the New Zealand tour – Ben Stokes (c), Jimmy Anderson, Jonny Bairstow, Stuart Broad, Harry Brook, Zak Crawley, Ben Foakes, Jack Leach, Alex Lees, Graig Overton, Ollie Pope, Matthew Potts, Joe Root.
