Anirudh Thapa is the new captain of Chennai

Indian professional footballer Anirudh Thapa was on Monday named the new skipper of Chennai for the upcoming season of the Indian football league. The 23 year old central midfielder has been with the Marina Machans since 2016 and over the years has been one of their key players. It would be fascinating to see how the added responsibility shapes up the young talent. The two time champions will play their opening fixture against Hyderabad on November 23. Chennai struggled to find their feet last season and would be looking to make amends for the poor/ show under a new captain. The last edition was spoiled with injuries to some key attacking players including Thapa. As a result the goals dried up and Chennai struggled to get any momentum ahead. In a recent interview Thapa said the side has emphasised on improving their fitness. This year we will also see an altered Chennai unit, as they have released most of their foreign recruits from the last season barring Rafael Crivellaro. According to Thapa the new overseas signings have settled well and are ready for the forthcoming challenge.
