Australian T20 League 2022

Match 21- REN vs SIX

Preview

Renegades (REN) and Sixers (SIX) will square off in match 21 of the Australian T20 League 2022 at the Simonds Stadium, Geelong on Friday, December 30. The two teams have already met once in the ongoing edition of the competition where Henriques and co secured a 34 run victory. While REN will look to avenge the previous loss, SIX will look to carry the winning momentum and complete a double over their counterparts.

Bowling first, the Gades restricted defending champions to a competitive total of 149. Mujeeb Ur Rahman was the pick of the Renegade bowlers, who ended the game with impressive match figures of 3/24. Prior to this match, the Afghan cricketer was seen struggling to find his rhythm. Chasing 150 for victory, the men in red got off to a disastrous start. They lost Martin Guptill in the very first over. Fellow opening batter and REN skipper Nic Maddionson soon followed courtesy a mistimed pull. Two quick wickets triggered a REN batting collapse and the Melbourne based franchise was eventually bundled out for 115. Ahead of this reverse fixture, the 2019 winners will need to sort out their  batting woes. The addition of Shaun Marsh and Martin Guptill has certainly bolstered their batting, but they suffered a tremendous loss in the form of Andre Russell, who was roped in the side as a partial replacement for Liam Livingstone.

Sixers will be pleased with the way they have turned things around after two consecutive losses in their opening two matches. They have now registered three wins on the bounce and are looking hungry for more. Ben Dwarshius made an emphatic return to the squad with a match winning performance in the last game. The left arm pacer rattled the opposition batters with his express pace and accuracy. He picked four key wickets and broke the back of the Renegades batting unit. He enjoyed good support from Hayden Kerr and Sean Abott from the other end, who took two apiece to put the game beyond any doubt. The reigning champions have seemed to find form off late and we expect them to put up another formidable performance in this game.

Match Details

Match: REN vs SIX, 21st Match, Aus T20 League 2022-23

Date: Friday, December 30, 2022

Time: 1:00 PM

Venue: Simonds Stadium, Geelong

Pitch and Weather Report

The Simonds Stadium pitch offers assistance to bowlers hence they tend to dominate here. The batters find it difficult to get going as the track is on the slower side. The ball comes nicely onto the bat in the initial phases of the match but as the game progresses it poses difficulty to batters to play their shots. The outfield at Simonds is also quite slow, so batters sometimes do not reap full rewards for their shots. The captain winning the toss should elect to bat first as chasing has not been easy here.

Mostly sunny conditions with a maximum temperature of 26 degree celsius is predicted on match day and thus we can expect a full match.

Hot Fantasy Picks

Wicket Keeper

Josh Philippe- The wicket keeper batter played a sensible knock of 55 in the previous encounter. He is one of the chief architects of the Sixers turnaround in the competition.

Batsmen

Shaun Marsh- The Australian international looked good for his 28 in the last game. He is vastly experienced and has good numbers in the T20 format, making him a must pick for this game.

Martin Guptill-  Just because he didn’t get runs right away that doesn't mean you exclude Guptill from your fantasy XI. He is a classy top order, who has scored loads of runs in this format. His numbers speak volumes of his calibre at this level. He is amongst the very few to  have two tons in the shortest format of the game.

All Rounders

Sean Abott: He has unarguably been Sixers most consistent player over the years. With 134 wickets and 519 runs in 99 matches, the bowling all rounder is certainly one of their key players. In the last match, he struck twice

Hayden Kerr- The 26 year old burst onto the scene last year and has been a pivotal member of the team ever since. He can bat, bowl and is a remarkable fielder.

Bowlers

Ben Dwarshius-  The lanky speedster instantly grabbed headlines with his match winning performance in the last game. He picked a four-fer and steered his side home on Tuesday.

Akeal Hossain- The Caribbean star has done remarkably well for the Gades in all three fronts. Apart from his prowess as a spin bowler, the 29 year old adds value with his destructive play down the batting order.

Match Prediction

The Sixers are on a roll at the moment. With three back to back wins, their morale will be high. Renegades on the other hand will need to reassemble themselves and try to look at one game at a time. Considering the current form, we back the three time champions to continue their winning run in the competition.
