Bangladesh Cricket Council struggling to find a place for their franchise cricket league 2024

Nazmul Hasan, the president of the Bangladesh Cricket Council, raised doubts about organising the next season of the Bangladesh T20 League, which is their country’s lone franchise T20 cricket tournament. All these suspicions are raised as the general elections are approaching.

While declaring the seven franchises for the upcoming cycle of the Bangladesh t20 League season, the council also specified the dates for the three future cycles of the franchise cricket league. The dates are mentioned as, January 6 to February 16 for the 2023 season, January 6 to February 17 for the 2024 season, and January 1 to February 11 for the 2025 edition of the game.

Nevertheless, the council also mentioned the dates are subject to change in case of a clash with other leagues like the South Africa T20 League, Australian T20 League or International T20 League. The reason behind the compromisation is that they are failing in getting renowned players of the T20 format to play in their tournament.

Nazmul also mentioned that at the moment, they are having difficulty getting a slot for the next year’s Bangladesh T20 League which is tentatively scheduled to start on January 2024 and also added that they have to conduct the tournament in two phases due to security reasons.

"We are not getting the slot for the next Bangladesh T20 League and it is nearly impossible to bring out a slot. We have got one but we might need to have a gap in between if there is a general election where the security personnel will be needed," Nazmul revealed to reporters at the Sylhet International Stadium on Monday.

The Bangladesh Cricket Council president also added that they will assign their head coach by February 20. The Bangla Tigers are expected to start their next International duty against England, in which they will play three ODIs and three T20Is which is scheduled to start on March 1.

Before the beginning of the series, the Bangladesh Cricket Council needs to appoint a new head coach, the prime slot has been vacant since Russell Domingo left the position mid-way.

Nazmul was also impressed by the facilities available at the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium and that very place has been chosen to build a Bangladesh Cricket Council academy.

Following the press meeting, Nazmul had a long session with Shakib al Hasan, the Test and T20I captain for the Bangladesh side, at the President's box at the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium.
