Arsenal slipped against Newcastle as Tottenham are favourites to qualify for UCL

So close yet so far – This is how Arsenal’s season is going to end if Tottenham manages to win the rest of the games. Starting the season with three defeats in a row, no one believed that Arsenal would be fighting for a Champions League spot. Arsenal fans were disgusted with Michael Arteta and wanted him out of the club after the first three games of the season. What followed next was good football and the desired result. Arsenal extended Arteta’s contract and just when everyone thought nothing can go wrong, Arsenal did an Arsenal. In Game Week 37, Gunners lost to Newcastle by 2 goals to nil and with that, their dream of playing Champions League next season is almost over.

After some initial dominance, The Magpies took control of the match. It was a fist fight in the first half. Newcastle created some good chances but Arsenal’s defence was rock solid. In the second half, Ben White’s own goal changed everything. The wingbacks of Arsenal were non-existent and Newcastle took full advantage of that. The black and white brigade was playing attacking football and the Gunners were just trying to catch them up. A lot of great chances were created but the team failed to convert those. They finally got their second goal in the 85th minute when their new signee Bruno Guimaraes scored when the ball ricocheted off Ramsdale.

With this loss, Arsenal is now 2 points behind their fierce rival Tottenham. With just one game to go, their chances of qualifying for Europe is very slim. Spurs are going to challenge Norwich in their last match of the season and it should be pretty comfortable for them. With them almost qualifying for Champions League next season, Antonio Conte might end up staying at London after some initial infuriation. However, Arsenal will definitely remember this season.
