The Southern Derby is back and at what a time. Both the teams need a win to stay in the hunt and the form of both these teams will definitely make this game an intriguing one. The Machans were unbeaten in the first four games but went down against Mumbai but came back strongly against Odisha in the last match. Kerala did the unthinkable in the last match. They were playing some good football lately but in the last match they defeated the defending champions Mumbai by 3-0. This is a huge thing because the Islanders have been brilliant this season. Thus, winning against them and maintaining a clean sheet definitely deserves a lot of credit.

Kerala are currently sitting in the sixth position with 9 points from six games and with a win against Chennai, the men in yellow can even move up to the second spot. Only if they win by 3 goals or more. The Spanish striker Alvaro Vazquez has been brilliant for the team. He did have a slow start but in the last couple of games, he has shown his pedigree and he will once again be a key player for the team in the upcoming match. Jorge Pereyra Diaz did suffer an injury in the last match and for once it was thought that he will not be playing in the upcoming match. However, it has now been cleared that he is available for selection. Another player who has been in terrific form is Jeakson Singh. The young Indian has been one of the prime reasons behind Kerala’s stability in the middle. Their main issue will be defense. If they can keep their defense intact, it will be a long and tough night for the Machans.

Chennai has surprised everyone and played some really good football throughout.  No one gave them a chance before the start of the season but is now one of the hot favourites to qualify for the Semis. With 11 points from six games, they are currently fourth in the table. The achievement is bigger than you think because their main player Rafael Crivellero  is out injured and has not played a part in any of those games. Anirudh Thapa, the young captain has taken a lot of responsibility and has worked really hard to put his team in a decent position. Vladimir Koman is another such player who has probably won everyone’s heart. The midfield maestro has given multiple good performances and he is one of the reasons behind Chennai’s success. He will be very crucial for the upcoming match as well and expect him to shine. He did that against top opponents in the match and he can do it again.
