Shikhar Dhawan aims to get back into the India side after having a good Indian T20 League

Even though he still one of the first names for the One-day team, Shikhar Dhawan lost his space in the T20I side after some brilliant performances from KL Rahul, Rohit Sharma and then Rituraj Gaikwad and Ishan Kishan showed how dangerous they can be in the shortest format of the game. Despite having good performances in the Indian T20 League, Shikhar Dhawan is not considered in the national team because of his age. The team looks forward to having someone who can contribute to the team for years to come. That’s exactly where Shikhar Dhawan misses out.

The 36-year-old has not given up on his dream though. He still aims to get back into the Indian team for the T20 World Series that’s scheduled to take place in the month of October at Australia. When asked about his ambitions for the white ball cricket, Dhawan said, “The T20 World Series is coming and I know that if I do well in the Indian T20 League, I can get into the side. I am a very process-driven person. I don’t set goals. Till the time, I am enjoying my game – and when I am saying enjoying my game, I mean from a fitness, game and mindset perspective – If I’m enjoying on all these fronts, it works best for me and I’m in that space right now. So, I’m making sure that my process is very strong and I automatically achieve all that I need to. I’m confident of doing well in the Indian T20 League and if I do that, I will have a chance to make it to the World series squad. Maybe I will, maybe I won’t – time will tell but I will not allow any of that to affect my state of mind”.

Dhawan also aims to retain his spot for the 50-over World Series next year. Now, he has done tremendously well in the 2015 World Series and also in the limited opportunities he got in the 2019 World Series. He is in tremendous form in this format but the team management needs to think a lot before making a decision as again, there are some youngsters who are playing some good cricket at the domestic level. When Dhawan was asked about his intentions, he said, “I am looking forward to it. The process is the same. I just have to follow them. There’s nothing new to bring out of the book. I am going to keep repeating and refining and I know things will happen. I’ve never chased things in life”.
