International Cricket Board calls Bengaluru pitch below average
The International Cricket Board rates Bengaluru pitch below average
The Chinnaswamy pitch in Bengaluru that hosted the second test fixture between India and Sri Lanka has been rated below by the International Cricket Board. Javagal Srinath, one of the elite panel members of the International cricket board deemed the surface substandard and the venue as a result has received one demerit point.
The pitch offered a lot of turn on the first day itself and though it improved with every session, in my view, it was not an even contest between bat and ball," Srinath wrote this in his pitch report
Srinath stated in his report that there was a considerable amount of turn on the surface from day 1, which saw India reduced to 148 for 6. Shreyas Iyer then produced a special knock to help the hosts cross the 250 run mark in the first innings.
Sri Lanka in reply were bundled out for just 109, though only three wickets were taken by spinners. India put on a much improved show in the second essay, but the visitors faced a similar fate, with 7 batters failing to even cross the double digit mark. The match only lasted until the final session on day 3.
