T20 World Series: Deepak Chahar ruled out, Mohommad Siraj, Shami and Shardul Thakur to leave for Australia

Indian speedster Deepak Chahar has been ruled out of the T20 World Series 2022 due to fitness woes as India are yet to name a replacement for injured Jasprit Bumrah in the 15 man squad. Chahar was named as a part of the reserves for the much anticipated tournament, which will be held in Australia from October 16.

Chahar was in superb form even since he returned to the side from a long injury lay off in Harare. The swing bowler was picked in World Series reserves but was ruled out of the recently concluded ODI series against the Proteas with all rounder Washington Sundar replacing him. The Indian Cricket Board said Chahar was deemed unfit for the last two ODIs due to a stiff back.

Meanwhile, the pace trio of Mohommad Shai, Mohammad Siraj and Shardul Thakur is set to depart to Australia on Thursday, October 13. These three will join the squad and the training session in Perth ahead of the showpiece event.

Shami, who is considered the top contender to replace Bumrah in the squad, will go through his final fitness test at the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru after having recovered from the deadly Covid 19 which excluded him for the T20I series against South Africa and Australia at home.

Mohammad Siraj in the interim has put his name forward as Jasprit Bumrah’s replacement on the back of some fine performances in the just concluded white ball series against South Africa. He was named the Player of the Series in the ODI series in which he picked up 5 wickets in just 3 matches. Siraj was in tremendous rhythm, particularly with the new ball. He kept the flow of runs in check and used bouncers to great effect.

India would like to announce Bumrah’s replacement after closely assessing the three fast bowlers in Australian conditions but Shami seems to be the frontrunner as per reports.
