Match 5: DG vs CS

Preview 

The 5th match of the Sri Lanka T20 League is between the Colombo and the Dambura franchises. While CS has lost their first match of this season, DG is currently facing JK in the 3rd match of the league. This match will take place at the Mahinda Rajapaksa International Stadium in Hambantota at 03:00 PM on Thursday, December 08, 2022. 

The Colombo side got defeated in their first game by 109 runs against the Kandy side. KF while batting first posted a total of 199 runs with the loss of a single wicket. Openers Prathum Nissanka and Andre Fletcher smashed 71 and 102 runs respectively. Later Brathwaite also added a finishing 20 runs to add up to the total. The bowling side of the Colombo team was clueless about how to take wickets. In the second innings of the game, the skipper Angelo Mathews scored the highest i.e. 26 runs. Eight batters from the team scored below 10 runs, with three of them getting out on the very first ball. KF humiliated them till the last wicket was taken on the third ball of the 14th over. Skipper Hasaranga led the bowling pack taking a four-for along with Fabian Allen taking two to fetch a huge 109 runs win over CS in their first match of this season. 

DG on the other end is yet to come to a conclusion in their first match against JK. But they have a strong squad with Dasun Shanaka as the leader of the pack. They have batters like Jordan Cox, Bhanukab Rajapaksa, Sikander Raza. But their bowling side consists of bowlers like Lahiru Kumara, Chaturanga de Silva, Noor Ahmad, and Paul van Meekeren who have nil or very minimal international experience.

Pitch and Weather Report

The ground in Hambantota is not suitable for batters. CS are the only side to have achieved over 150 runs at this pitch so far. Spinners will be the table turners in this venue, as the pitch tends to get slower as the match progresses. The captain winning the toss will prefer to chase the target on this slow pitch. 

Rain is unlikely to affect the match. Regardless, there will be cloud cover over the area with a maximum temperature touching 30 degrees Celsius.

Match Prediction

CS lost their first match by a huge margin, but that does mean they will try to come back stronger. DG has a confident and experienced batting side but we cannot claim they have a pack of world-class bowlers. We expect a comeback from CS in this game.
