5 foreigners to lookout for in Indian T20 League Auctions
Foreign players in the Indian T20 League are the heart of every team. There’s only a limited amount of quality Indian cricketers who can win you games and thus, many teams depend on foreigners to get the job done. The role that Faf Du Plessis or DJ Bravo played for Chennai was massive or the role Andre Russell and Sunil Narine played for Kolkata in their success or even the role Kieron Pollard plays for Mumbai or AB De Villiers played for Bangalore are something no cricket fan can forget. You can’t deny the fact that they are a strong force and played a very crucial role for the success of their team in the recent past. Now, when the team will build a fresh team for the next decade or so, a lot of these foreigners will earn loads of money as the demand is a lot but supply isn’t. Here are the five foreign players that we think can create a war in the bidding room –
- Quinton De Kock – The wicket-keeper batsman can and will earn loads of money from the auction table because of the kind of service he brings into the table. A top order left-handed batsman who can keep and also act as a leader is a rare commodity in the auction. He has proved himself several times in the past and has won the trophy multiple times. He has played a big part in Mumbai’s success in the past and the team will surely want him back. With a base price of 2 crore rupees, he will be in demand for sure!
- Kagiso Rabada – Foreign pacers were always in demand in the Indian T20 League and in the mega auction, nothing is going to change. The South African, KG Rabada has proved time and time again why he is such a dangerous custodian in a cricket field. Last year in UAE, the pacer couldn’t really leave his mark but the year before, he was leading Delhi’s bowling line up and the team played the finals but unfortunately went down to Mumbai. With sheer pace and good form, Rabada has the potential to create havoc in the auction room.
- Jason Holder – The Caribbean has the potential to be the most expensive foreign player in the auction. Teams love to have a pace all-rounder in the team and there’s no better than Jason Holder at the moment. Some of the pundits also believe that he should be seen as a captain and the teams who are looking for a captain should definitely consider him. Teams like Mumbai, Kolkata, Lucknow and Ahmedabad, who have someone of his quality in the ranks may still go after him as it’s a proven factor that all-rounders will win you T20 matches. Afterall, that is the reason behind Chennai’s and Mumbai’s success in the league.
- David Warner – At 35 years of age, David Warner may not get the amount that he would have received otherwise but still a lot of teams will break their bank to go after this heavyweight opener. As a leader he has also won the Indian T20 League trophy but based on his age, teams may hesitate to hand over the captaincy baton. The Australian had a very poor outing last season and was also dropped from the squad. However, he made a strong comeback and won the World T20 Series and also was the Man of The Tournament. Thus, you can expect him to go for a lot of money in the auction.
- Wanindu Hasaranga – Normally players like him and Shakib Al Hasan are considered to be vital but not a must! Things are very different this season. The entire season will be played in Maharashtra where the spinners get a lot of help. The pitches will also be overused and again, the spinners will find it really easy to bowl. Thus, Wanindu Hasaranga who can play solid knocks with the bat and is a decent bowler will be someone who can go for a lot of money. In the 2021 auctions, he has gone for a lot of money and 2022 won’t be any different.
